LION AT LARGE.
A NEW SOUTH WALES SENSATION. A real live lion has made its appearance on the ranges and gullies in the mountainous country between Fitzroy and Belmore waterfalls, in New South Wales. Some of the local sportsmen claim to have seen it, and there is no one more pronounced as to the identity of the beast than Mr. Sid Shepherd, of Bowral. He was one of a party that was out shooting the other day, and leaving his gun in the motor car was going down a gully in the vicinity of the lookout to boil the billy, when he saw, about forty yards distant, what lie emphatically asserts was a lion. He says he was in a position to obtain a very fine view of the animal, and he drew a sketch of it as it appeared to him. He called a companion. Mr. Ewan Mcßae, who joined him, also unarmed, and by whistling endeavoured to attract the attention of Mr. Englebert, another member of the party. The king of the forest then rose on its haunches and assumed what was regarded as an attitude of attack. The three sportsmen secured their guns, but during their absence the animal disappeared.
Other, residents also claim to have .seen the lion, and it is; also reported that large stock have been mysteriously killed in the locality visited by it.
