CANTERBURY-AUCKLAND DISPUTE. THE ASSOCIATION'S RULING, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Chrlstchurch, Last Night. A meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Hockey Association was hold to-night for the purpose of discussing the resolutions passed by the Canterbury Association condemnatory of the refereeing of Mr. L. C. Kent, of Auckland, in the recent challenge shield match between Auckland and Cautorbury. A lengthy letter was read from Mr. Kent, In which be stated he had given his decisions Impartially aiul in accordance with the rules. His interpretations were similar to those given by him iu representative and club matches in Auckland during the last nine seasons. Mr. Kent added that the whole trouble had been caused by lack of uniformity in the interpretation of the rules adopted in Auckland and Canterbury, and he suggested in the interests of the game that a Dominion conference of referees was essential to lay down uniform Interpretations and rulings.

In a long discussion which tensued the. unanimous opinion whs expressed that the Canterbury Association's resolution suggesting to the New Zealand Association that Mr. Kent was not competent to control future shield .matches should be withdrawn. The following resolution was carried: "That -the Canterbury Hockey Association, having agreed to Mr. Kent acting as reforee in the shield match Canterbury v. Auckland, it Is bound to accept his decisions, and in view of these circumstances, In the best interests of eport this committee directs that the Canterbury Association withdraws the resolutions 1, 2, 3, and 4 forwarded to the governing body." The Canterbury Association had forwarded five resolutions, the fifth one beiug a suggestion that the shield match rule should be altered "to provide for outside refereeß." In this connection a committee was set up to go into the question of the revision of the Challenge Shield, the Nordon Cup and rules generally.
