CHILDREN'S BAD TEETH.
REPORT ON NEW PLYMOUTH SCHOOL. A TOOTH-BRUSH PARADE. "It is quite evident that the teeth of the children are in some eases shockingly neglected," says Mr. H. A. Stratford (headmaster of the Central School) iu his report regarding the visit to the school of Dr. Elizabeth Gnnn. The report proceeds:—"A toothbrush parade has now been institued at the infant school and Mrs Martin and her teachers give the pupils there practical exercise daily in the use of the brush. The present supply of brushes—2oo— been found by t?ie department, but »I do not know whether it will be continued. Although the neW arrangement is not intended to usurp the functions of the parent, it is hoped that it will be the means of laying the foundation of care and regular attention., "The following brief summary shows •the result of the medical examination of 90 pupils:— Physical deformities 4d Decayed first teeth 41 Enlarged tonsils 39 ' Nasal obstruction (adenoids) .. 45 Enlarged glands -♦ 34 "During an address to the teachers at the physical drill classes, Dr. fiunn pointed out how decayed ■ teeth often resulted in appendicitis and abscess on the lunss; she also gave some valuable advice regarding cleanliness of hair and skin."
