WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Nov. 4. The song recital given by Mr. Frank Amoore last night was but poorly attended, partly owing to the many attractions in the town this week. The singing of Mr. Amoore, backed by Mr. Hartman with recitations and Mrs Fredrie at the piano, certainly deserved much better support. There is something on every evening this week, so that anyone seeking amusement should find it to their heart's content. The font, which was purchased by subscriptions and erected in St. John's Church to the memory of the Waitara men who have fallen in the war, is to be dedicated on Sunday next by Bishop Averill at the evening service. A meeting of the supporters of Mr. W. T. Jennings was held last night, and a strong committee formed to work for Mr. Jennings at the. forthcoming election.

The annual examination of the public school was commenced yesterday by Mr. Dempsey and continued to-day by Inspectors Ballantyne, Morton, and Dempsey. From what one can hear, 'the examination has been very satisfactory, and there is every probability that the reputation Mr. Wyllio and staff have for getting their pupils through will be still further enhanced.
