Sir J. M. Barrie has been elected Rector of St. Andrew's University.

Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M., Auckland, is spending a fortnight's holiday in, New Plymouth. Mrs F. A. Quin, a sister of Mrs F, Washbourne, and formerly of New Plymouth, died in Hawera on Monday.

Mr. E. Burr, who for some time past has been in charge of the New Plymouth branch of the Public Trust Office, has been transferred to Wellington and leaves by mail train this morning. Mr. Isaac B. Mendelson, for so many years a resident of Hawera, who left New Zealand a few months ago for the United States, died at the home of his son, Julius Mendelson, at San Francisco, on September 18. The Rev. G. C. Blathwayt, principal of the Otaki Native College, and Mrs. Blathwayt, left Otaki on Saturday for Tsland Bay, where Mr. Blathwayt has received an appointment as vicar. Mr. Wills, of Te Aute College, will succeed Mr. Blathwayt at Otaki. Before leaving Mr. and Mrs. Blathwayt were presented with valuable Maori mats by the local Natives.

Mr. Frank A. Oxley, a prominent and popular resident of Picton for many years, died a few days ago at the age of 57 years. After being in a mercantile office, he joined the Post and Telegraph Department and remained in the service, for a number of years. He was a member of the local Borough Council. and also of the Hospital Board, and prominent in rowing, bowling, and Masonic circles.

The death oenrred in Wellington on Saturday of Mr. Thomas McEUigott, president of the Working Men's Club. The late Mr. McEUigott was about 63 years of age, and was one of the best'known cab proprietors in Wellington until he retired from business a few years ago. He. was elected president of the Working Men's Club this year, but for many years he had been a member of the committee, and bad a great interest in the library.
