. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. , A morndtg SITTING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Nov. 3. The Legislative Council met at 10.30. A message from the House of Representatives stated that the amendment made by the Council in the Hawke's Bay Rivers Bill had been disagreed with, the House maintaining that the Havvke's Bay [Rivers Board should not, have power to raise a loan without a poll of the ratepayers. Messrs. Gow,> Alison, and Earnshaw were appointed managers to attend a conference on the point at issue. At 5.30 p.m. the Native Washing-up Bill and the Undesirable Immigrants' lisclusion Bill were received irom the House of 1 Representatives am were read a first time. The Council adjourned at 11.15 a.m. until 2,30. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Wellington, Nov. 1. The House met at 11.50, Replying to Mr. Craigie, the Hon. W. H. Herries said that it was the desire of the Government to prevent such disasters as occurred on tho Tainui. Regulations regarding the carrying of benzine had been referred to the Crown Law Officers, and whatever steps were necessary in view of the inquiry recently held into that disaster imust be carried out. Replying to Sir Joseph Ward, Mr. Massey said that there would be electoral legislation; this session, but he Was unable I to promise ■ legislation to prevent minority representation. Replying to Mr. S. G. iSmith (Taranaki) the Premier said the question of a bonuS for the Second Division Railway Service had been before Cabinet, but the matter was not yet sufficiently developed to enable him to make any statement to the House. He, however, would keep the promise he had made.
