She handled the Crossings badly, losing ground at each. While giving Surveyor credit for a fine Tun In the Derby, the correspondent declares that the .New Zealander is discredited as a stayer. The Herald describing the Victorian Derby, States that Richmond Main showed the way nlong the riverside, the pace being moderate. The pace began to mend as they raced along the back stretch where the field closed up and Artilleryman, getting through, ratttad post the abattoirs just in advance of Surveyor with Richmond Main a couple of lengths away. Just before the distance Surveyor closed on the favorite, and, as they were battling, Richmond Main, with a brilliant run on the outside, seized the opportunity and won with the favorite at hJs girth. The Telegraph says that Artilleryman not always in a good position, but ran in front at the six furlongs post. At the distance, where Surveyor challenged and momentarily heeled him ho came through satisfactorily, only to be sorely pressed by Richmond Main within 20 yards. A bitter, gruelling struggle ensued to the post and Richmond Main fairly broke Artilleryman down. £.J.C. MEETING. By Telegraph —Press Association. The final acceptors number only 22, but they are a high-class crowd, and the issue bears a very open appearance. Lucknow, Nightwatch, and Crome, who filled the places in the Caulfield Cup, are engaged to-day, and the two first-named must take some beating. In the Caulfield Cup, Lucknow was in receipt of 51bs. from Nightwatch, and only a neck sjparted them at the finish. A 101b penalty brings Luctaow's weight up from 8.4 to 9.0, and with a "pull" of 51bs Nightwatch may prove superior. The three-year-olds. Surveyor, Artilleryman, and Richmond Main, were seen tinder Silk again on Saturday in the V'.R C. Derby, and Richmond Main appears to be the best stayer of the trio. Ard-na-ree is given a great chance, as i 3 Kenilford, for whom four figures were given recently with a view to winning the Melbourne Cup. Tite New Zealand-owned horses engaged are Snub, Survyor, Ard-na-ree, and British Arch, and probably old Snub will be the most reliable one over two miles. On paper, Nightwatch Richmond Main, and Keniifrtrd read most dangerous, but Snub may upset calculations. 'Che following are the final acceptors for today's race:— MELBOURE CUP, a sweepstake of £SO eaeh. With £7OOO added and a trophy value £l5O. Two miles.—Ke'nnaquhair 9.5, Lucknow (inc. 101b. pen.) 90, Prince Virdls 8.12, Nightwatch 8 9, Snub 8.8, lan Or 7.13, Chrome 7.12, Telecles 7.11, Dick Meagher 79, Menin 7.8, Miilleme 7.7, Surveyor 7.7, Artilleryman (Inc. 41b pen.) 7.6, Richmond Main (inc. 71b pen.) 7.6, Kunegetis 7.5, Ard-na-reo 7.3, Gambler's Gold 7.3.
