The demands of tlio New Zealand Federated Tramways Employees' Association for a national agreement to cover wages and working conditions at Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch, ■Dunedin, ■ New Plymouth, Wanganui, Napier and Invereargill has been circulated.

The motormen now start at Is 4%d per hour, the proposed new rate is Is lfld: the minimum rate is now lg fid after four years and Is 6Jd after seven yours, whereas the demand is for 2s all' round for the second year and after. The increases demanded for conductors are in proportion, and governed by the same principle. The association asks that a broken shift should begin before 8 a.m. and spread over 11 hours instead of 12. All time worked in excess of eight hours shall be paid for at time and a-half rates for the first two hours and double time thereafter.

A demand is made that all employees required to work on statutory holidays shall receive annually a minimum of 14 consecutive days, Sundays excepted, annual leave, on full pay. All employees not required to work on statutory holidays shall be paid for such days at ordinary rates. The assoeiation also asks for sick pay and for a spare list.
