INFLATED PRICE OF SILVER. London, Oct. 29. Strong Chinese buying on a short market forced silver above the face value of the coinage, bfat bullion brokers do not anticipate any melting down as ihe price must be at least 68d per ounce before the operation becomes profitable. Paris, Oct. 29. White sliver Is selling at 65% d per ounce the French authorities have been forced to adopt drastic methods to prevent sliver disappearing from circulation. A number of arrests have been made of men who wero melting down francs In order to convert them Into Ingots, which Is a highly lucrative fraud. Further arrests are expected. The Farmers' Co-op. yards were well filled for their regular fortnightly sale on Wednesday which was well attended. Business was brisk throughout, nearly all lines flmilng buyers and the tone of the market showed no Indication of slackening. Again a line of goats was offered and sold at 235. A line of shorn ewes (locally the first of the season lambs) sold for 30s.- Other lines of sheen were well up to late quotations. In cattle yearling to 15-months heifers sold readily. Shorthorns as high as £C Is, Holsleins up to £0 14s for a choice line. Jersey 15 months heifers £R Is, Shorthorn steers found a buyer at £5 17s 6d. A line of 2 years old steers of mixed colors realised £6. There was a s'rong demand for store cows. A fat cow sold for £ls. Dairy stock. sold well hut were slightly easier than has been the case lately. A large number *of class were yarded and the average price was (Miinewhat lower in consequence. The hull fair ir. the same yards on Thursday, with. Inst., was also, .a marked success. A good yarding of .bulls and a corresponding atteiidnbce of buyers who. meant business ensured a satisfactory result. The striking feature of the sale was the confirmed popularity of the-Tcr-sey breed. The highest price given was for a pedigree son of "Silver Fox," 40 guineas; while a pure bred bull, without producible pedigree, sold for guineas. Other fjrade Jerseys also sold well. Holsteins were nut so much in favor, a very nice young be:ist from Mr. Hodges' herd bringing only 15 guineas. Other bulls of varying ages changed ownership to the satisfaction, It may he presumed, of vendor and purchaser.—Record.
