The Assembly has read a first time a Fair Rents Bill, which provides that the gross profits of landlords shall not exceed 10 per cent., out of which they will have to bear the expense of maintenance, depreciation and taxation. . RETURNING WIRELESS CORPS, Melbourne, Nov. 1. Mr, Poynton announced that the .*.us-tralinn-New Zealand AVireicss Corps in Mesopotamia will leave Bombay about November 20. SOAP WORKS GUTTED. Sydney, Oct- 31. Fire destroyed Burford's soap works at Brnkenhill. The damage is estimated at £9OOO. A LIQUOR BILL. Sydney, Nov. 1. The Government proposes ro introduce a Liquor Bill before the closing of the session at the end of the month. It provides for the abolition of local option, the introduction of the licensing board system and the continuation of six o'clock closing, pending a referendum to decide on the permanent closing hour, to take place simultaneously with one on prohibition, both to be decided by a hare majority.—Aus.-N.Z.
