RAILWAY STAFF SALARIES.
DIVISIONS ON THE BILL. ' LABOR DEFEATS AMENDMENTS, (By Wire.—Own Correspondent.), Wellington, Nov. 1. The debate in the House of Representative:! on the Kailway Bill early on Saturday morning had some features of special interest. Several divisions on ' party lines took place. Mr. Holland, chairman of the Labor Party, moved that the salary of the General Manager of Railwayg shtfuld bo reduced by £IOOO. The salary mentioned in the Bill was £3OOO, After much discussion this amendment was defeated by 42 votes to 11. The division list was as follows: For the amendment (Id)-—Messrs J M. Dickson, T. A. " -Then Sir Joseph Ward moved that the salary of the Assistant General Manager should be reduced fcy £1 «... indication that in the opinion of the House the members of the second division of the railway service were entitled to consideration if the salaries of the members of the first division were raised.
