WEST COAST RESERVES.
DELAYS IN GRANTING FREEHOLD.
(■By Wire.—Own Correspondent.)
Wellington, Last Night. In the House of Representatives today Mr. S. G. Smith complained of delays which often occurred in granting the freehold to applicants in respect of West Coast settlement reserves. He asked the. Prime Minister to make arrangements for obviating such delays in future.
Mr. Massey said that probably such undue delays as had occurred were due to the scarcity of surveyors. All the professional staff of the department was occupied in dealing \Jith land for soldiers' settlement and this work was much more urgent than the valuing of these reserves op the West Coast.
