MALE CHOIR.

AN ENTHUSIASTIC AUDIENCE. The New PlymoutTMale Choir faced a hotter audience for the second performance of their concert than they did on the first night and the proceedings as;—*",*. The choir numbers were the same as given on the first night, but several encores were demanded. They sang "The Three Chafers," "The Bells of St Mary s, which also had to be repeated, as it had on the first night, and for an encore to the "Song of the Northern" the choir sang "Hear Us, Almighty

Mr. Fred 0. Bourke was in even b<s- - form than on Thursday and was accorded a flattering reception. He gave a very impressive rendering of Sullivan's "Thou'rt Passing Hence/ 1 and was recalled twice. In the Becond part his programme item was a gem from the pen of M. Valerie mite, "The Devout Lover," and Mr Bourke was brought baelc three times, trie applause and appreciation increasing with each appearance. He sang "A Castilian Lament" (by request), "She is far from the Land" and "Mother Macree." The choir is to be heartily commended for having secured the services of Mr Bourke and giving the New Plymouth public the opportunity of hearing a singer of such high culture. It ig earnestly to be hoped that it will not be long before Mr Bourke is heard again here. Mrs Stuart Russell was again successful in her Shakespearian recitals and secured encores for each item.

Mrs Frederic was also accorded very warm appreciation for her piano bolo and had to respond to a re-call. '

The .accompanists were the same as on the first nipht, and Mr F. W. G. McLeod conducted the choir.

At the conclusion the choir adjourned to Messrs May and Arrowsmith'a rooms -where an enjoyable supper was partaken of, and the assisting artists were entertained. Several members of the Hawera Male Choir were present last night.'and they also shared in the social function.
