THE TAURANGA SEAT. By Telegraph.—-Press Association. Tanranga, Oct. 30. Mr. B. C. Robbins, candidate for the Tanranga electorate, opened his campaign last night. He declared himself an Independent Progressive Liberal who would support the Liberal Party on an important division. Formerly he was a supporter of the Reform Party, but he was not satsified with their > performance. He severely criticised Mr. W. H. Herries for not attending more closely to the needs of the district. Mr. B. C. Robbing, who is contesting the Tauranga seat with the Hon. W. H. •Herries, has three times previously sought to enter Parliament, and once polled within 26 votes of the winning candidate, the late Felix McGuire, who represented Egmont for 12 years. PORT CHALMERS SEAT. . Dunodin, October 30. Mr. John Gilcrist has been selected the Labor candidate for Port Chalmers. MR. MASTERS AT STRATFORD. (By Wire.-—Resident Reporter.) Stratford, Last Night. Mr. R. Masters, the Liberal candidate for the Stratford seat, had a very successful meeting at Stratford last night. The Town Hall was packed, and he received an enthusiastic hearing. Mr. Masters spoke on,, the lines of his Whangamomona address. He dealt fully with the recent speech of the Hon. J. B. Hine ,and criticised the policy it set out.. After Mr. Masters had answered a number of questions satisfactorily, the following resolution, moved by Mr. MacAlister, was carried amidst cheers: "That, as the Reform Party has failed to make good, this meeting, realising the urgent necessity of being represented by an'cnergetic and progressive member,'has confidence in Mr. Masters for that position." A unique feature of the meeting was the programme of music gven by a special orchestra. The music started at 7.30, and very soon the building was filled. By eight o'clock people were refused admission.
