Sydney, October 29. \ • A Finnish company, with a capital of 30 million Finnish marks, is opening an office in Sydney to establish direct trade between Finland and Australia. It has already secured an option over a line of steamers. EFFECTS OF THE DROUGHT. Sydney, October 29. In the Legislative Council, Mr. Carruthers moved the adjournment in order to draw attention to the appalling effects -of the drought. He proposed the appointment of a Royal Commission to inquire into the economic prospects of agricultural interests. STRIKE ON TRANS-CONTINENTAL LINE. Melbourne, October 29. Owing to dissatisfaction at the recent award the engine-drivers and firemen on the trans-Continental railway struck, holding up the express 200 miles from Kalgoorlie. Officials later brought tho train back to Kalgoorlie. LIBEL ACTION ABANDONED. Melbourne, October 21?. The wharf laborers' libel action against the Age was dismissed with costs, plaintiffs not appearing.
