Hatton Garden firms are buying and smelling great quantities of silverware, paying 4()d an ounce over the pre-war cost of hnll-marked' articles. The needy middle classes arc among the largest supplier.';, and many are parting with their last spoon, ' being content to restock when normal time? return. Money changers similarly sold 100,000 ounces of foreign silver coins, chiefly French and Swiss, for smelting purposes.
