REPATRIATION.

NEW PLYMOUTH COMMITTEE. A meeting of the New Plymouth Repatriation Committee was held last evening. Present: Lieut-Colonel C. H Weston (chairman), Messrs. H. 11. Cattley, W. J. Chaney, R. J. Clarke, E. B. Ellerm, T. Furlong, F. W. Okev, J. B. Rowlands, E. Whittle, and the secretary (Mr. A. S. Allen). The secretary reported that ten men were now on the unemployed register, one man had been placed in employment, and another had started training in a new trade. Also that a fair number of fanners had responded to the posters recently circulated throughout the province with reference to the training of returned soldiers on farms. As the number of men now coming forward for training is small, this branch of the Department's work in New Plymouth is well in hand. Farm training had been arranged in this district for three men approved by the Wellington Board, find one trainee had, with the consent of his employer, received permission to terminate his agreement. The following loans were recommended for approval: £3OO to purchase a bakery and grocery business, £3OO for a private hotel, £2OO for a motor lorry, and £2OO, for an electricians business. A joint, application from two returned .soldiers for £OOO to purchase a bakers' business was also recommended, a loan of £IOO was granted to two men towards the purchase of a motor iaunoh. Four loans of £SO each for tha purchase of furniture were granted, another cf £IOO to two men was also approved. An application for a loan of £lO to purchase cabinet-makers' tools was also granted. A grant of a Bum not exceeding £2O towards the cost of a correspondence course in accountfincy was approved. One applicant was granted financial assistance whilst training on a farm.
