THE WRONG MAN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Yesterday. A case of mistaken identity was drsclosed in connection with an affiliation case in the Magistrate's Court to-day. Acting on a description furnished by complainant, and perhaps misled by; the similarity of names, the police had arrested a man at Timaru and brought him to Christchurch in custody. The Magistrate discharged the man and cancelled the order for costs previously made against him. OUTBREAK OP TYPHOID. Gisborne, Yesterday. A serious outbreak of typhoid is reported at Te Araroa, East Cape district. There have been 25 cases, five or sis: ending fatally. Of seven nurses sent from Auckland three are down with fever. The Natives are inolined to shelter cases until they become [too bad for treatment. The outbreak is attributed to want of proper sanitation in the Native settlements and medical help is urgently needed. A ROGUE AND VAGABOND. Masterton, Yesterday. At the jourt this morning, James Groves,' was sentenced to three months imprisonment on a charge of being a rogue and vagabond in that he had endeavoured to impose upon the Wairar&pa Patriotic Association by falsely representing that he was a soldier, with a view to obtaining money 01 other benefit. Grove 3 was also charged with having worn a uniform, and was fined 40s. THE RAILWAY BILL. Dunedin, Last Night. At a meeting of the executive committee of the Railway Officers' Institute, it was unanimously decided to express strong disapproval of the action of the A.S.R.S. in endeavoring to block the Bill providinc increases of salaries for railways officers to cover the increased cost of living, as agreed upon in April at a conference with the late Minister of Railways,
