WAR MEMORIAL UNVEILED.

TO COMRADES OF CLIFTON FOOTBALL CLUB.

The historical camp ground at Waltara, wherefrom the Imperial troops, especially the 40th Regiment, marched in ISGO to attack Puketekaure Pah. with disastrous results, was a scene of war versus peace conditions yesterday. The occasion was the unveiling of memorial gates to the sports ground, erected by the members of the Clifton Football Club to their comrades who went to the war. The.Mayor, Mr. Morgan, presided, the other speakers being Mr W. T. Jennings, M.P., who unveiled the flag, the Revs. Gavin, Lawrence, and Perkins. Mr Jennings gave a brief history of the Clifton Club, which had thirty years' existence, and had on its roll fifty members that had gone to the war, ten of whom had made the supreme sacrifice. The club had also a record in its football experience, having won in the early days outright a cup presented by Mr 'Baylv, and more recently had six members' in the Tnranaki representative team. The day's sports were enjoyable, and the local band, under Bandmaster Hughes, contributed very much to the day's memorable proceedings.
