MEAT COMMANDEER.
QUESTION OF AN EXTENSION. J " I NO DECISION YET. (By Wire.—Own Correspondent.) ; Wellington, Last Night. ! The meat commandeer was mentioned ; in the House to-day. ' Mr. Forbes (Hurunui) asked what the j Government intended to do when the j commandeer ran out. He believed that t it ended on June 30 next. j Mr. Masse}': As a matter of fact I j have not been able to get a direct reply from the Imperial Government as to whether they are willing to ex/tend the | requisition tor New Zealand meat. I j have communicated witli them on the j matter, but so far they have not said 'Yes,' or 'No.' Mr. Forbes: Are you suggesting an extension? Mr. Masscy: No, I am simply endeavouring to find nut whether they are willing to lake our meat for a further term. As soon as we know whether they are willing we can make up our minds what to do. If they shouM agree to take the meat for another period then it will be for the New Zealand producers ! to decide whether they will agree to ian extension of the requisition or ! whether' they will take their own j chances of disposing of their meat in | the market in the usual way.
