Thursday saw the opening of tho 1919-20 cricket season, and with the commencement of the Saturday competition this afternoon cricket will ho onco again in full swing in North Taranakl, after a lapse of five y*nrs. Providing the enthusiasm at present displaced does not prove evanescent, the prospects look better for cricket than has been the case here for many a long year. From the matches so far played, indications are for keen and close contests, whilst the form evinced by some of the player* both with the bat and the ball is distinctly good. The fielding, a most important part, is not being so negleeteC as usual. A feature of the matches played has been the form displayed by the old players. Bottrlll scored over the half-century for High School against Old Boys last week, whilst in (he New Plymouth-Inclowood match, ton scores Kcre obtained for their respective clubs by Hasell, 85 not out, and Nlcholls 53. The bowling honors also went to old players In Ileskell and Nlcoll {New Plymouth), and O'Byrne and Darlow (Inglewood). Inglewood are to be congratulated on winning the first match of the fle&Rm. Hie team for the Inland town has always played a sporting gamo, and cricketers will bo plensea to see that they have entered the competition.
