PROGRESS OF SOUTHLAND.
AN ELECTRIFICATON SCHEME. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invereargill, Last Night. The final conference of representatives pi the local authorities of Southland with the Southland Electrification Committee was held to-day. Resolutions were unanimously approved embodying the necessary recommendations to the Governor-General regarding, (a) the area to be constituted the Southland electric power district, (b) the area to be constituted the outer area Of such district, (c) representation on the Southland Electric Power Board of each constituent district and combined district. . The chairman of the conference was able to report most satisfactorily re* milts following a canvass for signature! to a petition to the Governor-General and also for undertaking to consume power when it is available. The jx-tii tion is to go forward to Wellington within the next ten days and the Southland electrification scheme will be • launched under most favorable circumstances.
