WAITARA.
(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Oct. 23. The loading of the s.s. City oE Winchester was commenced this morning. She is taking about 17 barges of meat and sundries, and is expected to finish loading on Sunday or Monday next. Sergt. M. Cain arrived home oil Tuesday morning. He has been touring with the team which went to South Africa. He is not looking much the worse for the experiences he has been through. Superintendent Hugo inspected the Waitara Fire Brigade last night, and had the firemen put through their drill. He afterwards addressed the members on matters pertaining to the better working of the brigade by using up-to-date methods and hotter plant. All arrangements for the Labor Day sports are well in hand, and, given a fine day, a most exciting day's sport will be provided, file opening ceremony in connection with the football club's commemorative gate is to take place before the sports start. The annual inspector's examination of the State school is to take place on Monday, November 3. There was a very poor attendance of persons interested in the holding of a spring, autumn, or winter show at the meeting called for Tuesday night, though several who could not attend the meeting would assist in making arrangements for a show.
