THE NORTHERN TERRITORY.

THE PORT DARWIN EPISODE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Oct. 23. In connection with Mr. Ferrick's statements in the Senate, cabled yesterday, Mr. Arnold, solicitor for Vestey Bros., states that the suggestion that Dr. Gilruth, or any other Government official in the Northern Territory is, or was, interested in the firm of Vestey Bros, or the North Australian Meat Company was incorrect. He also denied the inferences that Vestey Bros, were connected with the American Meat Trust. Vesteys are wholly British, and not connected with any trust or combine. Melbourne, Oct. 23. In the House of Representatives, the Minister for Home Affairs, replying to questions regarding the Port Darwin episode, said that Dr. Gilruth asked for eleven months' holiday. He was granted six, and was still drawing his salary and house allowance as Administrator. He was now in England, where he was doing certain work for the Customs De-partment.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
