! CIVIL CASES. (Before Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.). In the Magistrate's Court at New Plymouth yesterday judgment was given j for plaintiff by default in the following I undefended cases:—Webster Bros. (Mr. T. P. Anderson) v. Geo. Thomas, £8 15s (costs £1 10s 6d); H, N. Hoby (Mr. R. H. Quilliam) v. Thomas Goulton, £5 (costs £1 0s fid); J. E. Nixon (Mr. H. *R. Billing), v. George B. Beere, £6O 19s 3d (costs £4 0s 6d); Wm. Mace (Mr. A. C. La wry for Mr. G. Grey) v. Wm. McCarty, £36 10s (costs £3 lis) ; Wm. B. Rußden (Mr. Crokcr) v. Albert Mad- : sen, £1 16s (costs fis). I Joseph West, baker, New Plymouth, sued Alma H. Gilbert, farmer, Matapu, for £22 3s I<l for rent due in respect to I a section of. land leased plairitUT to defendant. No solicitors were engaged in the case. Defendant admitted liability for £], and sought to show tiiat certain sums of money had been, sent to plaintiff, but for which he could not produce any receipts. /Plaintiff denied receiving the amounts and the case was adjourned for a week to allow defendantto procure evidence from the post office in regard to registered letters and from the bank as to cheques alleged to have j been forwarded to plaintiff. ■ On the application of Ellen Jenkins (Mr. R. H. Quilliam), Chas. Edwin Rowland was ordered to give up possession of a tenement at Fitzroy within fourteen days. *
