The watersidera decided to take a secret ballot on the question of taking over the control of all the stevedoring work on the waterfronts at Dominion ports'. WELLINGTON'S GAS SUPPLY. Wellington, October 21. Pending the settlement of the demands recently made by the men at Miramar gas works for increased wages, the men have decided to discontinue to work overtime. Thus, with the exception of the stokers' ordinary shifts, no work will be done after 5 o'clock on Saturday afternoon or on Sundays. If a breakdown of the machinery occurs during this period gasmaking may have to cease, as it is imperative that such repairs should be done immediately, no matter what the time of day or night. If this cannot be done there is a danger of the city gas supply stopping without notice. MATCHES IN SHIP'S CARGO. Gishorne, October 21. Mr. MTjeary, manager for RichaTclson and Co.. reports that the steamer Awahou took from Auckland 4f!5 cases of benzine, and. when the last of these was being unloaded yesterday, at the bottom of the hold a paper box of wax vestas was found wedged in between two cases.
