His Excellency the Governor has written to His Worship the Mayor of New Plymouth, as follows: "I desire to express the best thanks of Lady Liverpool and myself to .you and the citizens of New Plymouth for the very hearty welcome which you accorded'to us. We shall never forget our visit, or the kindness which we received from you all. I wish tlw weather had been a little kinder, and had kept its tears for another occasion. We fully realise that it does not always rain in your borough, but that the sun continually shines on a happy and prosperous community. Will you kindly express my best congratulations to the Guards of Honor for their good turn out, and to the young ladies of the Girls' High School for their demeanour on parade at the reception? With every good wish to Mrs. Burgess and yourself,—Yours sincerely, (signed) Liverpool." Mr A. S. Brooker was a passenger for Auckland by the Rarawa last night. Mr C. 11. Burgess leaves by the mail train this morning, en route to Auckland. He expects to return by the end of the week. Mr G. H. Buckeridge, of Hawera, has been appointed Deputy Scout Commissioner for Taranaki. His district will include Eltluun, Hawera, Opunake, Manaia, Kaponga, etc. Mrs. F. B. Butler, Devon Street East, has been advised that her son Percv is returning to Now Zealand by the troopship Arawa, due in Auckland on November 19. 'Private Butler had the misfortune to lose a log through wounds received in France during the last big advance.
