A despatch from Tokio states that Baron Funakoshi, leader of the Opposition, speaking in the Diet, said that if the Government was forced to abandon Japanese settlement in Kio-Chau at the behest of other. Powers, such action would constitute a violation of Japanese interest in international affairs. The welfare of the nation demanded that Japan should not abandon the settlement.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
