The Cricket Board of Control has decided to invite an English team hero In the summer of 1920-21, and in the event of an English team coming nest year to send an Australian team to England In 1921. OLD BOYS DEFEAT HIGH SCHOOL. The first cricket match of the season was played In New Plymouth on Saturday, when Old Boys and High School met on tjie High School ground. The wicket and outfield were in good order, and the keenness dtpplayed by the cricketers, augurs well for the coming matches. Though the weather.' was by no means ideal, there was a gooc attendance of spectators. High School. tTiontrh defeated, put up a fine performance, % ak! , hut for the fine display given by,, one» of the High School masters,"- roi* Old Boys, they would have won. Afternoon tea was dispensed in the Assembly Hall at the school. High School went first to the wickets, and O'Halloran and Sinclair opefned to Bottrill and Monteath. With 15 runs up, of which he ha-3 made 14 including two boundaries, Sinclair was smartly caught by Oliver off Bottrill. Palmer joined him, and, by playing carefully, assisted O'Hailloran to raise the score to 28, before the latter was bowled by Bottrir for 10, including two boundaries. The next two wickets fell cheaply, and then Osborne assisted Palmer, who played pretty cricket for his 10 runs; to caTry tho score to 47 for the fifth wicket. Nine pickets were down for 58, and then Smart and Hayden added 13, the innings closing for 71. OJd Boys' innln?a opened badly, Bewloy being bowled by O'Halloran's third ball without opening thy score. Osborne ana Bottrill then carired the score to 12 before Sinclair bowleg the latter for 8. Monteath went out ttrst ball. Oliver, Colson, and Qullllam were quickly disposed of, and the ocora stood at 36 for 6 wickets, when the afternoon tea adjournment was taken. Bottrill, had scored 11 by steady cricket, ant 1 O'Hilloran, nnd Sinclair bowled unchanged. -Bottrill then opened out, and in successive overs lifted sixes off O'Halloran. Greiner was then tried, but Bottrill hit 14 off him In 4 hails Changes of bowling were tried, but Bottrill and Saxton carried the score to 90, when Palmer with his fourth ball dismissed Bottrill who had made 58, including two sixes and s'j bolindkrias. Bro*m. replaced O'Knllaran, nnd off his first over Saxton was caujht for 17. Fox was bowled for 10, and the innings closed for 109. School in their second} Innlnfes, ojfe'ned badly, losing two wickets for 5 iruns, but thanks to a fine display by Palmer, who made 43 before being caught, and 13 by O'Halloran, the score reached 76 for the loss of six wickets. Palmer Is a decided acQUisiton to the School, having last year represented Chrlstchurch under 16 against Wellington. Scores•
