The bowling green and croquet green are now in good order in readiness for the opening of the season. The Opunake Band is now established on a sound footing. It is regularly heard at practice, and has now entered into possession of the old bandroora, which was built some 15 or 16 yearn ago by band members,, who are now in various parts of the Dominion. The crayfish season has been t good one so far Some hundreds hav* beer, caught. On suitable nights and daye the Opunake jetty is crowded with people fishing for the "New Zealand lobster." After a good haul has been disposed of it is noticeable that the Maoris develop the "crayfish walk."

There are a number of visitors to the district seeking land and businesses. A new coachbuilder and wheelwright is opening up shortly. Mr. C. Hodgson, plumber and 'tinsmith, has sold out his old-established business. The assistance given to returned men by the Repatriation Board and the War Relief Association is having the effect of stimulating the industrious young men. It is currently reported that the Town Board will "not be able to get tho £7OOO for the hydro-electric construction works until the Victory Loan is cleared up. Regarding the formation of a hydroelectric power board for Egroont, the opinion is held that it is a good business move, as the Opunake lighting proposals ivill only be sufficient for a seven-mile radius, and was previously promoted only for the town of Opunake. The county must look to the New Plymouth scheme for cheap power to develop latent wealth. A Wellington firm owning small coastal boats has signified its desire to take a full cargo of southern goods to Opunake port whenever the Harbor Board is prepared to give sufficient cargo to warrant the trip. A representative of the Waitara Manure Works has also visited this district for orders, and the Waitara firm is prepared to land a full boat load of manures at the port, providing the quantity is sufficient to warrant the trip.
