NORTHERN TERRITORY.
ATTEMPTS AT DURESS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Port Darwin, October 10. The deputation to the Administrator, which included the Mayor, the secretary of the local branch of the Australian Worker*' Union and the president of the Industrial Council, told Mr Carey that, unless he agreed to act in compliance with the resolution demanding the appointment of a council with executive powers, the people had determined to devise means to bring about the desired effect. It was not desired to use force. Other statements were that it would be absolutely criminal to allow Mr Carey and his colleagues to remain ir. charge and their refusal tc resign would precipitate one 6f the biggest revolutions Australia had seen. The demand was made that the three officials should leave without consulting the Minister. Eventually, after declaring that they would not be coerced, Messrs Carey, Evans, and Sevan agreed to advise the Minister that they were resigning and departing by the next steamer, under the promise that they would receive reasonable assistance from the people.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Melbourne, October 10. In the House of Representatives Mr Glynn stated that, adequate steps were being taken to preserve order in the Northern Territory: He had telegraphed to Mr Carey stating that the officials were<inot to leave the territory. In reply to questions he said that an attempt had been made to establish a provisional Government, but none of the requests made under duress had been acceded to.—Aus.-N.i 1 :. Cable Assn.
