The Helsingfors correspondent of the ' Express says that Von der Goltz command* 120,000 Germans disguised as Russians, also 75,000 Russians, who are attacking Riga after the Letts' refusal jsf a free passage to relieve Petrograd. Copenhagen, October 11. Berlin messages state that British warships from Riga landed at Libau 60,000 Letts for a flank attack on the Germans under General Bermondt who, after the capture of the suburbs of Riga, offered peace provided the Lettish Government guaranteed a free passage for the Germans to Petrograd. London, October 11. - 'A Copenhagen correspondent reports that General bermondt announces that le does not intend to cross the Dvina, having attained his provisional objective by occupying the bridges and throwing back the Letts beyond the right bank in order to secure a base against • jthe Bolsheviks. An Amsterdam correspondent declares it would be foolish longer to question the German Government's complicity in the Riga raid. RUSSIAN LEADER'S PLANS. NEW LINE TO FACILITATE ADVANCE. London, October 12. .General Bermondt handed a note to the Entente representatives at Mitau on October 8. It say* that, as head of the Russian army in the western provinces, he has concluded an agreement with the commanders of the German forces occupy- . ing the country guaranteeing the gradual withdrawal of their troops to Germany, but Ijte. Lett and Esthonian violated the neutral zone and attacked bis troops, which were replacing the German posts. He haß therefore been compelled to beeufff a new line which would facilitate lan advance against the Bolsheviks. He hopes the Allied Powers will support him in accordance with the treaties concluded with his country.
