POLITICAL NEWS.

TWO NEW BILLS INTRODUCED. (By Wire.—Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Last Night. The State Forests Amendment Bill was introduced in the House this evening. It proposes to place forests on endowment lands in the same position as forests on Crown Lands under the forestry scheme. It embodies the principle that the preservation of forests is as necessary in the case of endowment lands as in the case of Crown Lands. The Native Townships Amendment Bill, introduced this evening, deals with the vexed question of the disposal of Native leases in the Native townships of Te Kuiti, Tauinarunui, and Otorohanga. The Government has power, under the present legislation, to buy out the Native interests. It is taking power now to issue regulations determining the manner in which the freehold of the purchased lands shall be distributed among the lessees.
