Tile N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have reeeived : tho following cablegram from their London house under date October 7, 1919: Wool sales: As compared with last sales closing rates' prices are higher for merino by about 15 per cent, and for crossbred by about IYn to 10 per cent, !?. . ' Tlie Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated October 4, from tho High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:—Meat: Wholesale maximum prices are now increased from Ocotber 6. Beef: Fores and hinds respectively, English Is l%d, Is 4%d, imported 10% d, Is l'/id; mutton and lamb-. English Is 3?id, imported Is o%d; pork, English Is 4d, imported Is 2Jd; veal, English, lO&d, Imported B%d. Hemp'.—The market Is quiet, and small business, doing on account of the strike. Manila "J" grades have been sold for £49 10s; Highpoints, £47; fair, £45 15s to £4O. All October and December shipments. The Bank of New Zealand has received tIKQ following advice from its London office, under date October 3: Tho sales have closed firm for all kinds of wool. There is an active demand by Continental buyers, but home buyers are quiet. The demand for coarse crossbreds Is slow. Prices for practically all descriptions are 5 per cent, higher compared with the opening of thi3 series. ADDINGTON MARKET. Christchurch, Oct. S. At Addingfon yards there was a decided drop in mutton. Beef is still firm. Store sheep: Values weakened except for good sorts. Two, 4 and G-tootli ewes 20s Cd, 4, 0, and 8tooth ewes 22s 3d to 30s, s.m. ewes 235, with lambs 12s 2d to 19s 4d, all counted; 2 and 4tooth wethers 28s Id to 30s 3d, 4-tooth wethers SBs 2d to 41s 9d, 4 and Smooth wethers 28s 6d to 435, ewe hoggets 25s lid to 38s 3d, mixed sex hoggets 18s 7d to 30s 2d, wether hoggets 20s 3d to 355. Fat lambs:. Prices fell.ss and ranged from 15s to 40s. Pat sheep: The sale opened fairly well, but a sharp decline in prices then occurred. Tho decrease is estimated at 10s to 15s per head. Extra prime wethers to 695, prime wethers 47s to 59s 6d, medium 40s to 455, lighter 36s to 39s 3d, extra prime ewes 575, prime ewes 42s to 48s 6d, medium 37s to 40s, lighter 27s 6d to 35s 6d, hoEgets 30s to 47s 6d. Pat cattle: The range of prices was: Extra prime steers £35 6s to £SO, prime steers £22 to £26, ordinary £lO to £lB, extra prime heifers to £39 10s,. prime heifers £l6 to £2l, ordinary £8 7s 6d to £ls, extra prime cows to £24 10s, prime cows £l3 10s to £l9, ordinary cows £7 9s 6d to £l3 Store cattle: Three and 4-year-old steers £9 17s 6d to £ll 7s 6d, 2r year-old steers £7 5s to £8 10s, dry cows £4 12s 6d to £B, heifers £7, calves £l7s to £4 2s 6d. Veaiers: Inquiry was keen and values firm. Runners £5 5s to £8 12s 6d, good veaiers £3 to £4 10s, fair veaiers 40s ti 555, small and inferior 5s to 375. Dairy cews: Second and third calves £8 to £lB 15s, other cows £5 to £8 6s, heifers £8 to £ls 10s. Pigs: Extra heavy baconcrs £9 to £9 19s 6d, heavy £7 10s to £8 10s, others £6 to £?,■ equal to ll%d per lb; heavy porkers £4 10s to £5 ss, others £3 12s to £4 ss, equal to Is to Is o%d per lb; choppers £7 to £l3. There was a good entry of store, pigs and an excellent sale, Best stores 60s to 745, medium 55s to 603, small 38s to 475, weaners 83 to 345, sows, In pig, to £9 15s. BURNSIDE MARKET. Dunedin, Oct. 8. At Burnside the number of prime bullocks was greater than for a considerable time. Last week's high rates were maintained. Extra prime bullocks £4O to £52, prime £3O to £36, medium £24 to £2B 10s, light and unfinished £l7 to £2l, prime cows and heifers £l9 12s 6d to £24 10s, medium £l6 to £l9, old and inferior £lO to £ls. Pat sheep: Prime wethers 603 to 73s 3d, medium 51s. 6d to 583, light 40s to 50s, a few extra prime ewes to 84s 3d, prime 50s to 565, medium 42s to 47s 6d, light and aged 30s to 395. Lambs: Under excellent competition three realised 34s and two 365. Pigs: Competition was very keen, and fats advanced 7s 6d to 10s. A few pens of stores offered realised exceptionally high prices, probably the highest paid at Burnside to date.
