HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
COMMITTEE MEETING.
A meeting of the committee of the New Plymouth Horticultural Society was held on Wednesday evening, Mr. N. K. McDiarmid presiding. The principal business of the meeting was the making jai arrangements for the forthcoming show, which is to be held during the first week in December, in the Coronation Hall. The schedule was carefully revised and a number of alterations and additions made. A novel addition, which was suggested by Mr. Dickson, was a competition for the two most useful and original articles to be made from a benzine tin or case. The schedule will be in the printer's hands in the course of a few days, and copies will be available shortly. A resolution was passed conveying to Mr. G. Gibson, the committee's heartiest congratulations on his well-merited success at the bulb contest hold recently in Christchurch, between Mr. Gibson and the Hon. Heaton Rhodes for a stake of £SO, to ba paid by the loser to some charity, The president emphasised the necessity for great publicity in connection with the society's affairs in the endeavour to bring the aims of the society prominently before.the public. The matter was left with the secretary to attend to. ■ The Timaru Floral and Horticultural Society wrote congratulating the society | on the selection of Mr. J. L. McCormiek to membership, and stating that he had for several years been a keen worker and a successful exhibitor at the Timaru Society's shows.
