ANNUAL MEETING. The seventh annua! meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held in the Soldiers' Club last night, when there was an attendance pomprising six ladies and three gentlemen. In the unavoidable absence of the chairman (Rev F. G. Harvie), Mr R. C. Hughes was voted to the chair! The chairman expressed regret at the sparse attendance, despite the fact that 120 gpeoial notices had been sent out and that the meeting had also been advertised. A number of apologies were read. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. The report congratulated members upon having passed through another useful and successful year, adding that it was pleasing to report that the efforts of the society were bearing fruit. There had been one or two prosecutions of a minor nature, the society having been successful in each instance. Thanks were tendered to the solicitors who gave their services gratuitously, also to .Mr Lownsbovough for bis donation of booklets, which were distributed throughout the district, to Messrs Sole and Burke and Mrs Earp for donations, and to the police force throughout the district for valuable assistance. Regret was expressed that owing to the epidemic the essay competitions had to be abandoned last year, but it was intended to hold them again this year. The committee also wished to thank Mr Ralph Collins for his valuable services aB Hon. Inspector, Regret was expressed that the society was losing a very valuable member in Mrs Joseph Wilson, who was going to reside in Auckland. Miss A. Wilson also resign cd from the committee owinn- to unavoidable absence from New Plymouth but the committee trusted she would be returning shortly and would again assist the society.
The balance-sheet showed receipts to have been: donations £l7 8s 6d subscriptions £6 18s, expenditure totalled Jii 5s and there was a balance in the bank of £27 Is od, as compared with £G 8s lod last year. Liabilities wen£l3 12s 4d. There was also a credit of about £4O in the Colvile memorial fund.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted wthout discussion.

Morton (re-elect-ed). GENERAL. Tiie chairman reported that one of the first matters to he dealt with by the new committee would be to arrange for the essay competitions. The committee will accordingly meet next week. It was unanimously resolved to pass a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Earn for he? handsome donation of £lO towards the society's funds. An anonymous donation of 10s was also acknowledged with thanks.
Reference was made to the splendid work carried out by the society's inspector, Mr Ralph Collins, durino- the existence of th,. society. Mr Collins had never spared himself in the society's interest and it was unanimonslv resolved to vote him an honorarium of .-CS Bs, and also forward a letter of thanks.
Votes of thanks were accorded the chairman, the. police and the press.
