Tho Union Company's Corinna, which arrived about 8 o'clock yesterday morning from Dunedin, via South Island norts, has rc-twiied from her overhaul a different vessel In several ways. An important improvement from the point of view of the cargo workers is the installation of an electric lighting plant. The machinery Is housed in the engine-room and the lights are fitted throughout the' ship including masthead and binnacles. Two clusters are provided for each' of the four hatchways. Tho comfort of the officers and crew as far as accommodation is concerned has also received at/entlon and the result is stated to be very satisfactory. Pour new rooms, nicely fitted, have been bunt on the old bridge deck for tho accommodation of the captain, the chief engineer, and the, first and second officers. A new bridge has been Suilt above, these rooms, so that the navigation offirer is stationed on a level about eight feet higher than previously. Tho purser's room and office are now separate in the port alleyway instead of in one room on the starboard alleyway. The greasers have u room to themselves in the starboard alleyway. The sleeping quarters nf the crew have not been altered, but a distinct improvement has been made by the provision of two mess-rooms, one for the firemen and one for the sailors. There are also three bath-rooms fitted with hot am, cold showers, one being for tho officers, and the others for the crew, wiio have changerooms, fitted with lockers, connected with theirs Fresh water tanks are connected with the bath-rooms.
