A NEW BILL. __ » (By Wire.—Own Correspondent) ! Wellington, Last Night. The Discharged Soldiers' Wet t lenient Amendment Bill, which was introduced in' the House to-night, provides for the resumption of land administered by a Land Board held under lease or licence for settlement by soldiers. On resumption of the land the holder of the license or lease shall be entitled to compensation for his improvements and for his interest in the unexpired portion of his leas*. The benefits of financial assistance, which belong to the soldier setter for the purpose of enabling him to carry on his farming operations, are, under certain circumstances, to he extended to the widow or near relative of the soldier in the event of his death. Assistance, it is proposed, may he given to soldiers on the security of the land held by them under lease. The right to acquire land under the special legislation affecting discharged soldiers is extended to soldiers not yet discharged, and to the widow of a soldier who' Served overseas. The benefits of all repatriation legislation are extended to include members of the army nursing service who have served abroad, or who have beer: held in New Zealand for instruction purposes. Another extension of benefits is to men who, on being declared until (ur foreign service, remained in camp until discharged from -the forces through no fault of their own. A clause in the Bill provides for the appointment of supervisors of soldier settlements.
