A.J.C. MEETING. PERFORMANCES OF NEW ZEAtANDERS. By Telegraph.—Press Asju.—Copyright. Sydney, Oct. 7, There Is considerable public disappointment at the showing so far made by the New Zealand horses at Bandwlck. Gloaming and Eosslul'have hosts of friends. The former's narrow defeat Sn the Spring Stakes after such a bold bid for victory and Rossini's two seconds iu the Trial and CUbborn Stakes Indicate' that there were good grounds for tho confidence of better things placed In them. Though beaten their performances were high class. The win of Karo In the Squatters' Handicap made some amends. It is reported that Gloaming, Karo, Afterglow, Rossini; and Dewdrop will return to New Zealand neit week. THE TOTALISATOR AT BANDWICK. Sydney, Oct. 7. Humbug will touch a short price la the Hastings Stakes. The War Star—Bonnie Brte ddiibto at Hocowhenua la quoted at a prohibitive figure. Combustion ran well at Marlon and at Wanganui, and should start favorite lu the Nunakiu Hurdles. May Morn, Prlntemps, and Ahllta are nicely treated in the minor heats at Horowlienua. Gloaming will probably measure strides with Wolarol, Rebus, Cetigne, Kennaquhalr and to in the Craven Plate (114 miles), ut Randwle 1 ; to-doy. In a great race Gloaming should just about score. Karo, Spanner, Taunaha, Impediment, and Lingerie figure In the Suburban Handicap (one mile) at Bandwick to-day, while Kosslni and hurveyor were entered for the Memhers' Han--5 ii J 9 furlon E s >- Delight (Demosthenes— Sunlight) may be produced in the Gimcrack stakes (:> furlongs), and Afterglow and Impediment, in the Sydney Handicap (IVi miles). Trainer It, J. Mason does not often make a mistake when he advises his employer to go to a good figure for a horse, but Mr. Greenwood had to wait awhile before Karo relumed her purchaso money. This she did ;™ en »he won the Squatters' Handicap, of 500 sovs., on Monday, and probably the New /eilanders present were sent on their way rejoicing with a healthy dividend. Cool light, who cake-walked the Breeders' riane on Monday, is a bay colt by Cooltrlm—iwlllght, racing In the nomination of Messrs. U. S. and J. C. Thompson. The runner up, Dunedln, by Linacre—Royal Silver, was to be ridden by the Auckland light-weight, H. Robinson, who ■went across recently to do some riding for Messrs. Stead and Richmond. Apparently Afterglow gave her supporters a good run for their money in the Metropolitan Handicap, going to the front at the penct, the cables tell us. In the run home, she was outpaced, but there was no disgrace in being beaten by a good horse like Rebus, and speetty lightweights such as Kenllford and Amazonia. Rebus carried top-weight, but was always mentioned l B the betting, and the wolarol—Rebus double must have lightened the bags pflkey Moses to some considerable extent.
Good prices wero returned in the majority of events at Greenmeadows on Saturday, Lord Astolat topping the poll with a dividend that made "the limit" look silly half-a-dozen times over. Glsborne horses ran up <o their track form, Cleft, Con, and Bjorneborg all winning well. During the day very hot orders like Lord Muskerry and Honey Bee went under, but the latter pair should be worth doubling up on if produced at Hastings. BJorneborg una Bagdad also look llko proving payable propositions In the near future. According to Auckland papers, Depredation wa3 knocked all over the course In the Avondale Cup, but came from Inst to fifth in the straight, and In consequenco H. Goldfinch asked lu L rell<,vcci of "io ride on Some Bov in mo Plumpton Handicap to Tide the New Plymouth horse. S. Henderson was then given th? mount on Some Boy, and kept up his record of landing the mustard on horses that other horsemen had already turned down. The Absurd Ally Caricature, though beaten cara day at Avondalo, ran two great races, and she promises to turn out a good advertisement for Mr. G. Currie's young sire. In (he Nursery Handicap on Wednesday, she drew No 1, but was last to leavo the mark. She then came right round (he field, and finishing like a good one, was practically In line with th? second and third horses at the finish. The aprpontlco Jockey A. O. Rowlands, wellknown In Taranaki. joined Mick King's stablo tit Bulls on Monday King has a W<r team in work and Rowlands should get plenty of opportunities there.
