GOOD ROADS.

THE PREMIER'S VIEWS By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 3. Replying to a deputation from the Good Boads Association this morning, the Prime Minister said he was in full agreement with the views expressed. There was a general demand, very naturally and properly, for good roads at the present' moment, and he could say he did not know anything in New Zealand which was so much behind in rain--parrsoir with other countries as in road construction,- but this was not uiuia.tural, considering tha,t New ZeaAand was a young country. The matter, however, was largely one of cost, and he reminded them there was a limit to the amount the country could borrow and to the taxing capacity of the country. They might rely on the fact that, notwithstanding other important claims the flovernment was thoroughly with them. He was not acquainted with the Victorian Act. but would read it. and assured them that, if the Government thought New Zealand could profit by adopting the measure-;the Oovernmont would not be slow to act. He proposal to take the matter in hand before the House rosp and, if he could learn sufficient from the Victorian Act to enable him to legislate in the right direction, he would do so. The good roads policy would be taken in hand earnestly and vigorously as opportunity offered.
