DEMOCRATS JOIN CABINET. HELIGOLAND DESIRES SEPARATION. By Tdegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrlgut. Received Oct. 3, 5. sp.m. Berlin, Oct. 2. Democrats have consented to enter the Cabinet, taking the portfolios of Ministers of Justice and the Interior, also the new Ministry for the execution of the economic conditions of the Peace Treaty, including compensation of Germans abroad, and for the mercantile marine. The Vossische Zeitung states that a strong agitation is proceeding in Heligoland for separation from Germany and union with England. A plebiscite is proposed.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. POSITION OF THE GOVERNMENT. Copenhagen, Oct. 2. A competent Berlin observer, summing up the position in Germany today, says that the time and opportunity for the overthrow of the present Government are past. The majority of the officers, though against the Government .realise that an attempted revolution from tlie Right would be solidly opposed by the whole nation, while members of the extreme Left are growingly recognising that the idea of the Soviet system, after the happenings in Budapest and Munich would be unsupported by the workers. The Independent Socialists have come to realise that a minority dictatorship would iie impossible, indeed, there is evidence that all parties arc solid for ordered government.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
VON TIRPITZIS BOOK. London, Oct. 2. Further extracts from Admiral von Tirpitz's book, published in Berlin, show that Herr von Bethmann-Holhvcg, would not agree to Britain being provoked to a naval battle, as Tirpitz desired, with the view of striking at 'Britain's prestige. Herr von Bethmann-Hollweg desired to retain the fleet intact to the end of the war for use in the peace negotiations. Admiral von Tirpitz also favored the bombardment of London by all available means, both by land and air.— Reuter.
