RUMORS ABOUT CONDUCTOR, The persistent rumors that have been circulating for some time past thatf there was a strong possibility of New, Plymouth and the Citizens' Band, losing the services of Mr F. W. G. McLeo* through inducements offered; to him byj some other communities, have not been without foundation. They have, how« ever, been sot at rest by Mr McLeod'af decision to remain in New Plymouth.; Several communities have been endeavoring to induce Mr Mlieod to) make a move, particularly the proi gressive town of Masterton, who S.U ready have had some experience of his musical leadership, and a very lucrative offer to rejoin a business there, together with a citizens' guarantee of £2.">o to take charge of the Municipal Band, provided food for thought. Tha New Plymouth Citizens' Committee, however, while realising that they could not hope to equal the above ofi fcr, agreed to make Mr M'Leod an advance in his salary. ' The bandsmen also held a special meeting at practice, at which considerable enthusiasm was evidenced, and after all sections of the band had voiced their pert sonal appreciation of Mr M'Leod, passed the following resolution: "That thla meeting of the members of the New Plymouth Citizens' Band endorses tha ni'tion of the Citizens' Committee in making overtures to retain the services of Bandmaster F. G. M'Leod, arid although they realise it will mean to him a considerable financial sacrifice, the bandsmen trust Mr M'Leod will see his way to remain, as this meeting desires to record its unabated confidence in him as_.their leader. The members hereby pledge themselves ti> do 'their utmost to, serve him faithfully and well, and also further his private interests." Mr M'Leod asked for a few days to consider the matter, and haying received a furthei wire from Masterton on Thursday, he now intimates that he has decided to remain ~
