There was an attendance sf (boat »< Mr. J. D. Sole, who presided, stated that tha executive committee of seven, betnt the eom trolling authority responsible to the COBBCU, and that tbe general committee should com slat of not more than 30 members. He be-* Ueved that by the election of a progressiva committee on the lines set out, a food deal of useful work could be done. Mora should be done to develop the attractions of fl»0 place. This applied to New Plymouth getutx ally, and he thought the time had some tor »' very much more progressive movement hi thewhole town In the matter of making it still more attractive. He suggested thai for the present a committee, of say, 20, would ba aafflclent to carry out the work contampleied. It was agreed to proceed with trie "election . of officers and an executive committee, aid tha'" result was as follows: President. Mr. i. D< •Sole; secretary, Mr. VaL Duff; tree-) surer, Mr. K. Bennett, D. P. Shot, Ij Hawker, V. Elliott, V. C. Davie*. W. H. Broome, J. s. Medley, 3. Smith, J. *. Xaoaix, ' —. Dingle, J. Saunders, and W. Putt Mr. Sola mentioned that the old Pa* Board had under consideration the qaestioa of Improvements to the Motley Street fronts age, by erecting a cobblestone wall and oriUH mental gates, plans had been prepared and estimates were being made of the probable cost. Doubtless that would be one Of tha Orst works to bo undertaken by the new euoK mlttee. He also referred to the work , done by the West End Bowling Ctob In th» course of seven years, and predicted that In J a few years Western Park would ba *b trans-i farmed as to be almost unrecognisable. Ha thought the Park could be made one tjf Ua finest playing grounds In the town. Mr. Thomson, chairman of the West Sad . School Committee, then mentioned tho matter of tho new site for the school, and asked for - the support of the Association In a deputation to tho Council an the question for tha purpose of presenting a petition on the «übi. lect. Mr. Sole assured Mr. Thomson of the Association'! sympathy, 1 but as the meeting wae one of citizens and not of the Association, he thought the matter of appointing members to a deputation might be left to the executive ' to attend to. Mr. Solo further mentioned the matter ft tramway extensions and said that la response to a request from tho exocutlve of the conn* ' bitted Bsiepayers' Associations,- the Borough Council had agreed to call a public meeting to discuss the question, though they thought the date suggested by the Associations was not opportune. Mr. Bole referred to the ettt-> mated cost of the extensions, as sit out by*' the Borough tramways manager, and said soma people considered them unduly high. Other towns were extending their tram systems, and . what was good for them ho thought ought to be good business for New Plymouth. Be y was not very Bangulno of prices coming down ' much for four or five years, and thought it ' would be falsa economy to wait as long aa that for the extension or the tram system To Westovm. In the meantime, the progress,of the district would be kept back and they' might In the end save only a fifth of what would be lost. Ho drew attention to tb*> patter In order to assure residents and rate' payers that the executlvo was not idle ltt tho matter. The suggestion of an augmented bus service was well enough In Its way, but It could never accomplish what a tram service would do. A rote of thanks to the chairman and tha press concludod the meeting.
