. A DISHONEST NATIVE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Whakatane, Last Night. Sam Kakana, a Native driver of themail car from Whakatane to Teteko, pleaded guilty to stealing £4 12s 9d from the mail bag in April, and was sent to the Supreme Court for aentenoe. The evidence and Kakana's confession indicated that when alone in the car he pulled a string through the lead seal of the mail bag received at Awaken, extracted a registered letter, re-tied the string round the mouth of the bag, and squeeAd the seal together. The letter was missed but not traced till last month, when Kakana was under arrest on other charges and confessedI THE CATTLE TICK. - Wellington, Last Night. Regulations for the purpose of eradication and prevention of the spread of cattle tick are gazetted.
