PRESENTATIONS.
BEV. F. D. BRISCOE. A number of friends of the Rev. F. D. Briscoe met together on Tuesday night to bid him goodbye on his departure from New Plymouth, and also to present him with a well-filled wallet of banknotes. Mr. H. E. Fookes spoke of the great loss the place would sustain by his leaving, of his absolute fearlessness and sincerity, and of the success of his work in connection with St. Mary's. Mr. Briscoe thanked all his friends for their sympathy and help, saying how much he regretted having to leave them and lav down his unfinished work. If he were spared to take up that other work on the other side of the world, in the slums of East London, he would not forget his friends here and would always remember them in his prayers. Mr. Briscoe left for Trentham by yesterday morning's train.
• MR. J. R. PENTECOST. The New Plymouth tramway em? ployees met at the tram shed* on Tuesday night for the purpose of farewelling Mr. J. R. Pentecost, who for some time has occupied the position of tramway inspector, and has resigned for the purpose of entering into the taxi business.
The chair was .occupied by Mr. V. George (president of the Tramways Union), who in the course of a short speech expressed regret at the severance of Mr. Pentecost's connection with the tramways. He assured Mr. Pentecost that the relationship between him and the men had been of the most pleasant nature. In bidding him farewell the employees desired in some slight degree to show their appreciation, and on their behalf he had much pleasure in handing him a motor spot lamp and reflector, and wished Mr. Pentecost every success in his new venture.
Messrs O'Gorman and Allen also referred to the admirable manner in which the guest had carried out his duties and the high esteem in which he was held by the tramways employees. Mr. Pentecost feelingly responded and thanked the donors for* their handsome present and the kindly expressions. He assured them that if in the future his services could be of any assistance to them he would be most willing to do so. The gathering closed with cheers for Mr. Pentecost and the singing of "For He's a Jollv Good (Fellow."
