The President sent a proposal to Congress in regard to the formation of a national agricultural bank, granting credits to farmers and cattlemen carrying out colonisation, irrigation, and the construction of granaries. A VESSEL ASHORE. Received Oct. 2, 12.55 a.m. Melbourne, Last Night. The schooner Balmarie, timber laden, from Opau to Melbourne, stranded in a fog on the Ninety Mile Beach, on the Victorian coast. The vessel is a total wreck. The crew abandoned the vessel. THE LIVING WAGE., Received Oct. 2, 12.55 a.m. Sydney, Last Night. Owing to the Board of Trade's decision the increase in the living wage has been raised from 60s to 77s 6d. THE BURDEN OF EXTRA VAGES. Received Oct. 2, 12.55 a.m. Sydney, Last Night. The. Government proposes to pass urgent legislation in order to reduce the burden of extra wages in State industries.
