GENRAL ELECTION.
The Rotorua Chronicle Bays, according to present appearances, at least half-a-dozen candidates will compete for the Rotorua seat at the approaching general i election. [^ Mr. D. L. A. Asbbury notifies his candid dature for the Egmont seat as a pro* \ gressive Liberal and sane Labor advocate. I Mr. Astbury, who has been in the dis- ' triet for very many years, is regarded as j one of the most fluent and forceful speakers in the province. Sir Andrew Russell, in addition to. being approached to contest the Hawlc«'» Bay and Napier seats, was also asked to stand for Pahiatua, owing to the retirement of Mr. Q. H. Smith, but he declined the honor. Both the Reform and Labor parties in the Pahiatua elect- .. orate are now busily scratching their heads (states the Napier Daily Telegraph) in an endeavour to decide upon a caudiadte who would have a reasonable chance of success. Both parties are calling meetings shortly to consider the. position. The Reform candidate Willi probably come from Dannevirke, and. will be a beginner ou the political plat- . form. . ,
