ADELINA PATTI. London, Sept. 27. Obituary: Baroness Cederstrom (Adelina Patti), the prima donna.—Aus.-N.Z Cable Assn. [Adelina Patti (the Baroness Ceder. strom) was one of the world's greatest singers, and no soprano acquired such vocal as Patti in her prime. She was the daughter of Salvatore Patti, a member of a well-known Sicilian family, and Caterina Chiesa, an operatic artist, and was born in Madrid in 1843. At the age of twenty-five she married the Marquis de Caux, in 1886 Nicolini, and in 189!) Baron Cederstrom. She went to New York with her parents as a child, and was educated there. She made her first appearance on the stage under the management of her brother-in-law, M. Strakosch, at Niblo's Gardens, New York, singing the two florid cavatinas, "Casta Diva" from "Norma" and "Una Voce" from "II Barbiere," afterwards favoritH items from her repertoire. Her real debut was made at the Academy of Music, New York, in 1859, when she sang sensationally, and was taken to London. She appeared for the first time at the Royal Italian Opera, Covent Garden, in "La Sonnambula" in 1862, creating a furore with her brilliant singing and finished acting. She was equally successful the following year at the Grand Opera in Paris, after which she enjoyed i triumphs in all the leading cities of the Old World and in America, and was the recipient of decorations and gifts from the heads of Royal Families and Hepublics. She retired from the operatic stage some years ago, but subsequent to that made a practice of giving an annual concert at the Albert Hall in London, which was always one of the events of the season. After she had celebrated her sixtieth birthday Patti received the offer of a fabulous sum of money to once more tour the United States, but she preferred the quiet retirement of Craig-y-Nos Castle, in South Wales. She composed the song "On Parting" and a waltz entitled "Fior di Primavera."]
