N.Z. LADIES' TOURNAMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Associntion Chrlstchurcli, Last Night. The New Zealand ladies' hockey tournament was concluded t'O-day. The weather was very wintry and the ground sodden, Canterbury A. beat Canterbury 8., by 5 goal* to nil; Auckland and Wanganul drew, one goal each; Wellington beat Nelson, 3 to 1. 1 Canterbury A. team won the championship cup' with 12 points, Wellington secured the runners' up shield with 8 points. Other points recorded were: Canterbury S. 7, Manawatu G, Wanganul 6, Nelson 2, Auckland X. Misses Ayling (Wellington) and , ftodder (Manawatu) were elected as best players outaide the Canterbury teams, and they received & brooch from Dr. Thacker, M.P., president of the Canterbury Ladles' Hockey Association. REFEREE AT SHIELD MATCH. DRASTIC RESOLUTIONS. Christchurch, last Night. In reference to the shield match, Auckland r. Canterbury; the Canterbury Hockey Association to-night passed the following resolutions: That in view ot' the most unsatisfactory refereeing by Mr. L. C. Kent, of Auckland, In tho challenge shield match, the committee Is unanimously of opinion that he is not capable of refereelng in any similar fixture in future; that in view of the unseemly demonstration by the general public at the match against 3lr. L. C. Kent, thia committee strongly recommends to the New Zealand BocUey Association that it would not bo in tho beat interests of hockey to appoint Mr. Kent as referee to any shield match in future; that in view of the regrettable demonstration by tho spectators against Mr. L. C. Kent, the Management Committee of the Canterbury Hockey Association is of opinion that outside referees should be appointed for future challenge shield matches. It was agreed to forward copies of the resolutions to affiliated Associations.
