THE BULLER SEAT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, Last Night. - Mr, D. O'Brien bas been 'definitely" selected as Liberal candidate for Buller electorate. Mr. O'Brien is a native 01' Brighton, Charleston, and has been the greater part of his life engaged in coal mining iu the Buller district. He is at present working in the Company's Miilerton colliery. In prewar days, Mr. O'Brien took a keen in* terest in volunteering, serving in the Millerton Hides, and rising to the rank of captain. Tor many years he was secretary to the Granity Miners' Union, and conducted numerous casts Won the Arbitration Court. Mr. O'Brien took an active interest in local bodies, serving on the Buller Hospital and Charitable Aid Board and Buller County Council. , He was chairman of the latter body in the early stages of the way end re- . signed from the Council to join the New Zealand Tunnelling Corps, whi.h proceeded to France, this corps being the drat Colonial unit on the Western front. Mr. O'Brien held the rank of lieutenant, and served in France for two yews. Afterwards he went to Palestine and' served as a lieutenant in the fiaralonean corps, and was in that country uatil the armistice was signed.
